Named
after WW1 first lieutenant James Albert Whitted, the Albert Whitted
Park & Playground
was established in support of the historical airport that once
offered passenger tickets at .01 cent per pound (i.e. If you weighed
150 lbs., you'd still only pay $1.50 for a one-way ticket). The
airport was the first known airport to offer scheduled aircraft
passenger flights.
The
park is free and open to the public, and the playground features
a miniature historical aviation and airport replicas, along with
taxiway layouts. |
