The Albert Whitted Airport Preservation Society is dedicated to preserving and enhancing Albert Whitted Airport, one of our nation's most historic aviation facilities. We look forward to working with all of our fellow citizens and neighbors to help make this downtown transportation and commerce center a vibrant and part of our city's downtown. We aim to have the finest general aviation airport in the country...one that incorporates public recreation areas, an education center, a restaurant with fabulous views, and a museum to showcase our city's proud place in the history of aviation. Albert Whitted Airport Preservation Society Committees

AWAPS Airport Development & Design Committee
To continually strive to “render” planning, design and development ideas for the betterment of Albert Whitted Airport and to deliver these ideas to the appropriate bodies for use and implementation. Objectives include enhancing the economic impact to the City of St. Petersburg, involving the general public in airport activities, and preserving aviation history.

AWAPS Communications Committee
Charged with the duties of public relations and delivery of information between the other committees and among the membership. Distribute educational information and enhance public awareness. Responsible for website maintenance, newsletter production, press releases, informative brochures and literature, and media communication.

AWAPS Education Committee
Provide ongoing public education concerning historical, current, and potential future uses of the airport. Coordinate programs highlighting the benefits of general aviation, and the future of general aviation as envision by NASA's SATS program. Provide airport tours, develop and conduct audio-visual presentations.
Develop and conduct summer programs for school aged children

AWAPS Events Committee
Creative planning, staffing and coordinating all Albert Whitted Airport Preservation Society events and community activities. Includes participatin in the Festival of States Parade, Santa Parade, hosting weekend fly-ins, planning and hosting annual Santa Luncheon, annual Egg Hunt, and monthly Pancake Breakfast. Host or assists with events that showcase the airport and enhance working relationships and goodwill with civic and other community organizations.

AWAPS Development Committee
Establish fundraising campaigns to fulfill the financial goals and objectives of AWAPS. Design and sell merchandise. Establish an endowment for museum collections.

AWAPS Grants Committee
Research, and make application of all applicable public grants and private funding programs to further the educational, historical, and development programs sponsored by AWAPS.

AWAPS Historic Preservation Committee
Develop historical documentation of the airport and community, preserve aviation history and artifacts, and establish historic database and archives. Create a basis for the Albert Whitted Historic Aviation Museum.

AWAPS Membership Committee
Seek new membership, and maintain current membership. Devlope involvement of existing members in day-to-day operations and special events.
